At 11:30am on 29 May 1953 Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest which is the highest point on earth at 29,028 feet (8,848 metres).
So what watches did they wear during the expedition?
Tenzing Norgay wore the below Rolex that he had been gifted the previous year in recognition of his efforts in the 1952 Swiss expedition.
Edmund Hillary had the below 2 watches on the expedition, a Smiths De Luxe watch and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual manufactured in 1950.
The watches were intensively used throughout the long expedition and were crucial elements in the conquering of Mount Everest.
