The chart’s maker says the data comes from Toyota’s year-end sales release [1]. Toyota Motor North America reported 2024 US sales of 2,332,623 vehicles across the Toyota and Lexus brands, up 3.7% on 2023 [2]. That matches the chart’s two totals combined (our arithmetic).
The Toyota division sold a record 883,426 electrified vehicles, up 56.1% and 44.5% of its sales [2]; the chart’s hybrid, Prime and EV shares add up to 44.4%. Toyota also reported that the Camry was America’s number one passenger car for the 23rd year in a row, the Tacoma the number one small pickup for the 20th year, and the RAV4 the best-selling SUV in the US for the eighth year [2].
The release confirms the chart’s model figures where it gives them: Camry up 6.6%, Prius up 17.5%, bZ4X up 99.1%, RAV4 up 9.3%, Corolla Cross up 30.8%, Grand Highlander up 49.3%, Sequoia up 17.6%, Sienna up 12.8% and Tundra up 27.4% [2].
