What this collection covers

The 18 infographics here cover road networks, metro and subway systems, aircraft and road safety, with a large group on cars. Road and rail pieces rank US interstates and state highways, score European metro systems and split New York subway ridership by borough. Aircraft graphics compare the biggest cargo planes and the operating costs of US combat aircraft. Safety pages chart US pedestrian deaths by lighting, set out motorcycle group riding signals and score driving hypocrisy across Europe. The car graphics take in reliability rankings, electric vehicle sales and milestones, how model sizes grew, brand name origins and basic maintenance.

Where to start

For road lengths, Shortest Interstate in the US, and All 77 Ranked by Length by Alan's Factory Outlet puts H-2 in Hawaii shortest at 8 miles and I-90 longest at 3,020 miles from Seattle to Boston. Longest State Highway in US, Every State's Longest Route goes with it, naming Montana Highway 200 as the longest state highway at 706.5 miles.

Two charts rank car reliability in different ways. Most Reliable Car Brands in 2023, Consumer Reports Scores by Voronoi by Visual Capitalist gives Lexus 79 out of 100 and puts Chrysler last on 18. J.D. Power's 2024 Vehicle Dependability Study, J.D. Power Brand Ranking also puts Lexus first, at 135 problems per 100 vehicles against an industry average of 190, with Chrysler on 310.

For aircraft, ETOPS Aviation's Biggest Cargo Plane Specs Compared, An-225 to Beluga XL lists the Antonov An-225 Mriya as the heaviest at 640,000 kg maximum takeoff weight, ahead of the Stratolaunch at 589,670 kg. For riders, the Motorcycle Legal Foundation's Motorcycle Hand Signals Chart, 16 Group Riding Signals shows 16 signals, nearly all made with the left arm so the right hand stays on the throttle.
