What the creator found

The creator posted the chart to r/dataisbeautiful, saying it was made in Excel with data from the Pew Research Center fact sheet [1]. They noted that Reddit stands out in almost every category: compared with the other platforms it has the most men, the most Democrats, the most college graduates and the highest combined share of White and Asian users [1]. The chart itself shows X/Twitter with a similar profile to Reddit on gender and education, while Instagram and TikTok have more women and more Hispanic and Black news consumers.

How many Americans get news on each platform

The chart shows who each platform’s news audience is, not how big it is. Pew’s latest fact sheet, from a survey conducted on 24 to 30 August 2026, says 40% of US adults regularly get news on Facebook and 34% on YouTube, with smaller shares on Instagram (23%), TikTok (20%), X (10%) and Reddit (9%) [2].

Pew also reports that women are more likely to regularly get news from Facebook and TikTok, while men are more likely to get news from YouTube and X. Younger adults are more likely to be regular news consumers on TikTok, Instagram and Reddit, and Democrats are more likely than Republicans to get news from Instagram, TikTok and Reddit [2].

Notes on this infographic

  • The figures are 2024 data. Pew updates the fact sheet each year, and the current page carries 2026 survey results, so the shares on the live page differ from the chart [2].
  • Columns do not add to exactly 100%: men and women sum to 98% or 99%, the two party groups leave out people who lean to neither, and race groups overlap because Hispanic people may be of any race.
  • The graphic prints the creator’s name as u/TA_MajestyPalm; the Reddit account is u/TA-MajestyPalm [1].
  • YouTube, the second biggest news platform in Pew’s data, is not on the chart [2].

Reddit leans furthest the other way, with 63% Democrat and 34% Republican, while X/Twitter is close to even at 47% Republican and 48% Democrat.
